Fast faster fastest...

Although the Trans-Siberian pretends to be an "express", with its average speed of 60 km/h it is rather slow than fast.

Having an average speed of 300 km/h, the TGV of the East, i.e. the newly operating Beijing-Shanghai high-speed train, shaves three hours off the former travel time (and nine hours off the sleepers!). Although originally projected to reach 380 km/h, the luxury train (if we would only have had those spacious and clean bathrooms in the Trans-Siberian...) can compete with a direct flight.

Nothing beats the Maglev airport shuttle though. Where a taxi ride takes about 45 minutes, the fastest train in the world (431 km/h) drops you off at Shanghai's Pudong airport in 7 minutes and 20 seconds.

Reportedly, China is developing an even faster train (up to 1000 km/h) - http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/smart-takes/china-developing-600-mph-airless-maglev-high-speed-train/9594
